Italian Market sketch

Italian Market in Philadelphia. This is where the first “Rocky” was filmed, in part. In the winter the outdoor food vendors burn cardboard boxes in open metal drums to keep warm. The street is fairly narrow and cars move slowly through the pedestrian clogged street. About those burning drums right next to the cars…maybe not so safe?

This sketch was more of a quiet scene, late afternoon.

Sketching and Poetry

A freehand sketch is a form of visual epiphany. The revelatory aspect is similar to the work of Imagist poets of the early 20th century. One of the finest and, justifiably, most famous poems from that movement was by a physician/poet :
